ARE YOU A PLAYER OR A SPECTATOR?

Most of us at some point in life have been active players. We grow up playing cricket in our Gallis or our school cricket fields. But then we've given up on being a player and settled for being a fan or a spectator.

India, a country of 1.3 billion people and one nationally popular game, celebrated immensely.

When the national team has a big game, millions watch it on television. It harvests the passion of an entire nation and then there are 20-20 matches that harvest the passion of the city or State behind the team. Despite this magnitude of fan following and craze, cricket's take-off in India is still inadequate.

Why is that?

Before I go into that, I'll talk about one encounter I had with a friend while we were watching a Cricket match at his place. I now forget the reason but he commented that I didn't know anything about the teams. Without giving it too much of a thought, I retorted, "I may not know every little detail about sports and the players, but I actually play sports; you're just a spectator!". That was an anger-infused response but I later realized that there is some truth in there.

Yes, we all love watching cricket which is great but how many of us still play the game?

Most of us at some point in life have been active players. We grow up playing cricket in our Gallis or our school cricket fields. But then we've given up on being a player and settled for being a fan or a spectator.

It's okay if you don't know every name and fact about teams and players in the world as long as you know the rules of the game and how to play it. It's better to spend the morning outdoors playing a game or two instead of being glued to a couch.

Players take actions.

At no point in life do you have to give up the game. There is no assigned age limit. Cricket can be adapted for any age, ability, or type of weather.

So where are you? Are you an active participant or are you just watching it pass by?
